The Leprosy Mission (TLM) held a global workshop in Bangladesh from May 20-28,
\n2023. The workshop was attended by over 75 participants from member countries of the
\nfellowship around the world, including five staff members from The Leprosy Mission
\nInternational Ethiopia (TLMI-E). The workshop covered a variety of topics, including
\nProgram, Human Resources (HR), and Finance.
\nThe main focus of the workshop was to draft a Theory of Change (ToC) for the new
\nTLM global strategy (2024-2028). The ToC is a document that outlines the global
\nfellowship goals and how it plans to achieve them. The new ToC has six
\npillars\/changes: disease identification, prevention, and treatment; preventing and
\nmanaging disabilities; combating discrimination; sustainable livelihood; and a strong and
\nengaged global fellowship.
\nPrior to the workshop, some member countries, including Ethiopia, conducted
\nconsultations with Organizations of Persons Affected by Leprosy (OPAL) on the three
\nzeros: zero transmission; zero disability; and zero stigma and discrimination. The
\npurpose of the consultations was to understand and analyze the lived experience and
\nsituation of people affected by leprosy against the progress made towards the three
\nzeros. The discussion points from the consultations were shared with the workshop
\nparticipants and considered in the drafting of the new ToC.
\nWhile working on the new ToC, the following major lessons were drawn:
\n\uf0b7 Sustainable livelihood is essential for people affected by leprosy.
\n\uf0b7 Transmission and prevention will not be successful unless they are integrated
\nwith other interventions.
\n\uf0b7 Data management and analysis, and research are essential for understanding
\nthe progress made and identifying gaps.
\n\uf0b7 Continuing working closely with OPDs, OPAL, people affected by leprosy, and
\npeople with disabilities is essential for contextualizing the issues and developing
\neffective interventions.
\n\uf0b7 Regular assessment of project participants and revisiting intervention strategies
\nare essential for ensuring that the interventions are effective.
\n\uf0b7 The cross-cutting issues of inner wellbeing and intersectionality are essential for
\nachieving comprehensive positive impact.
\nThe new ToC is a comprehensive and ambitious document that outlines TLM's goals for
\nthe next five years. The workshop was a valuable opportunity for the global fellowship to
\ncome together and discuss the challenges and opportunities facing the member
\norganization, persons affected by leprosy and persons with disabilities. The new ToC is
\na testament to the hard work and dedication of the TLM team, and it is a roadmap for
\nachieving the organization&#39;s goals.<\/p>\n
