Program Annual (2023) Meeting: Ethiopia, Addis Ababa"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>We are Able! is one of the Power of Voices strategic partnerships funded by the Ministry<br \/>\nof Foreign Affairs of the Netherlands (MoFa). The five-year We are Able! program aims<br \/>\nto strengthen Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) and Organizations of Persons with<br \/>\nDisabilities (OPDs) in six fragile and conflict affected countries (Burundi, Democratic<br \/>\nRepublic of Congo (DRC), Ethiopia, South Sudan, Sudan and Uganda) in their lobby<br \/>\nand advocacy activities for sustained and inclusive access to basic resources,<br \/>\ncontributing to improved food security. The program has been implemented through a<br \/>\nconsortium which consists of 6 member organizations and 3 local implementing<br \/>\npartners: African Disability Forum (ADF), See You Foundation, The Hague Academy for<br \/>\nLocal Governance (THA), The Leprosy Mission (TLM), VNG International, ZOA, ECDD,<br \/>\nENAPAL and FEAPD.<\/p>\n<p>Strategic objective of the program is: By 2025, through engagement with public<br \/>\nauthorities (formal and informal power holders), men, women, and youth with<br \/>\ndisabilities and other excluded groups, through resilient and capable CSOs\/OPDs<br \/>\nin six fragile and conflict- affected countries, are successfully influencing laws,<br \/>\npolicies and norms for improved food security for all.<br \/>\nThe third WaA! annual meeting was held in Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, starting from June<br \/>\n18-24, 2023. The meeting was attended by representatives from all implementing<br \/>\ncountries, except Sudan, due to the ongoing conflict. The main topics discussed at the<br \/>\nmeeting were:<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Shift of power progress and challenges.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Mid Term Review Discussion (MTR).<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Lobby and advocacy strategy; policy change.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Linkage among pathways and food security.<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Launching of the position papers, policy symposium; and<br \/>\n\uf0b7 Field visits in Addis Ababa.<br \/>\nAs one of the key highlights of the meeting, the policy symposium was held with the<br \/>\npresence of higher government officials, OPD and CSO leader, persons with disabilities<br \/>\nand persons affected by leprosy. Launching the position paper and dialogue session<br \/>\ndelivered which focused on the need to ensure food security for persons with disabilities<br \/>\nand persons affected by leprosy. The position paper contains an analysis of daily<br \/>\nchallenges for persons with disabilities and persons affected by leprosy; policy analysis<br \/>\nof inclusive food security and; different level recommendations on promoting inclusion<br \/>\nacross all structures.<br \/>\nThe meeting was a success and helped to identify the next steps for the We are Able!<br \/>\nProgram intervention. The participants also learned from each other and shared their<br \/>\nexperiences.
