The TLMI Ethiopia recently organized the Leprosy and NTD Workshops on 28 th of February 2023.
\nThe workshops commenced with insightful presentations by key leprosy actors and stakeholders.
\nThe workshop brought together a diverse range of stakeholders, including representatives from the
\nMinistry of Health, ALERT (All Africa Leprosy Elimination and Rehabilitation Center), AHRI,
\nENAPAL, AAU\/CDT Africa, actors from the leprosy field, and experts in Neglected Tropical Diseases
\n(NTDs).
\nThe primary focus of this workshop was to explore the potential integration of leprosy with other
\nprograms, specifically with Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTD), and to identify areas where leprosy
\ncan benefit from such integration. Various leprosy actors and stakeholders delivered oral and slide
\npresentations, highlighting the advantages and disadvantages of integrating leprosy with other
\nnational programs such as NTD, Skin diseases, and Tuberculosis (TB). These presentations aimed
\nto explain the importance of integration in terms of reducing leprosy transmission, disability, and
\nstigma. Additionally, they shed light on the benefits of adopting an integrated systems approach or
\npolicy framework for leprosy programs.
\nIn the second session of the workshop, participants actively engaged in providing feedback and
\nengaging in discussions regarding the ideas, arguments, and research results presented. Several
\nrecurring themes emerged from these discussions, including the need for integration and advocacy
\nefforts, curriculum revision, and capacity building for health professionals, collaborative work, and
\nincreased responsibility by stakeholders.
\nThe workshops provided a valuable platform for leprosy actors and stakeholders to share their
\nexpertise and insights on the integration of leprosy with other programs. The presentations and
\ndiscussions fostered a deeper understanding of the potential benefits and challenges associated
\nwith integration. Moving forward, it is crucial for stakeholders to continue working together to
\ndevelop effective strategies for integration, advocacy, and capacity building. By doing so, we can
\nenhance the overall effectiveness of leprosy programs and contribute to the reduction of leprosy
\ntransmission, disability, and stigma in Ethiopia.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
