In collaboration with TLMI-Ethiopia has launched a new research project focused on the mental health impact of leprosy in collaboration with TLM GB. The initiative, funded by LRI, aims to investigate the psychological effects faced by those living with leprosy and is part of a broader effort to address the social stigma and mental health challenges associated with the disease.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The project commenced with a workshop at ALERT Comprehensive Hospital\u2019s training center from August 26-28, 2024. Participants included mental health professionals, individuals affected by leprosy, and researchers. Eight mental health specialists and seven individuals living with leprosy attended, alongside other key facilitators.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Leprosy, while declining in incidence due to improved healthcare access, continues to carry a significant stigma, often leading to discrimination and severe mental health challenges for those affected. This research project is a critical step in addressing these barriers and finding solutions to the mental health consequences of leprosy.<\/strong><\/p>\n
